'96 Olympics: Canada's Golden Moment
Canada's men's 4x100m relay team made history at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
The team, consisting of Robert Esmie, Glenroy Gilbert, Bruny Surin, and Donovan Bailey, ran a time of 37.69 seconds to win the gold medal. It was Canada's first Olympic gold medal in the men's 4x100m relay since 1928.
Bailey, who was also the reigning world champion in the 100m, ran the anchor leg for Canada and held off a strong challenge from the United States team to secure the victory.
The Canadian team's victory was a major upset, as the United States team was heavily favored to win. However, the Canadians were able to overcome the odds and run a perfect race. Their victory was a historic moment for Canada, and it helped to cement Bailey's status as one of the greatest sprinters in history.
