Former Financial Analyst Credited With Spiking GameStop Surge

Gill Known for Educational Live Streams on YouTube

WEB Keith Patrick Gill, known as 'Roaring Kitty' on social media, has been fined $4 million by Massachusetts regulators. Gill is a former financial analyst who is largely credited with spiking the GameStop surge in late 2020 using his YouTube account. Gill, who was born in 1986, is a self-described "financial marketer and educator". He is known for his posts on the subreddits WallStreetBets and Investing. In 2020, Gill began posting live streams on YouTube under the name "Roaring Kitty". These live streams typically featured Gill tracking stocks and performing investment research. Gill's live streams quickly gained popularity, and he soon became a prominent figure in the WallStreetBets community. In late 2020, Gill's followers began buying GameStop stock, sending the stock price soaring. The GameStop surge ultimately led to losses for hedge funds that had bet against the stock. The Massachusetts regulators' investigation found that Gill had violated state securities laws by failing to disclose that he was being compensated by a third party for promoting GameStop stock. Gill has agreed to pay the $4 million fine and to refrain from further violations of state securities laws. In a statement, Gill said that he "regrets" the violations and that he is "committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations."
